Suzii Paynter Joins Pastors for Texas Children

Pastors for Texas Children announces the appointment of Rev. Suzii Paynter as a co-director of our ministry. She joins Rev. Charles Johnson and Dr. Charles Luke in this leadership role.

Before her most recent role, Executive Coordinator of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, she directed public policy initiatives for state and federal issues and led international relief and development projects with the Texas Baptist Christian Life Commission and as  the Advocacy Care Center. . It was her leadership at the Texas Baptist Christian Life Commission that helped birth Pastors for Texas Children.

     Over the past decade, Paynter has gained a national reputation for her advocacy on important ethical issues such as religious liberty, advocating strongly for separation of church and state and against school vouchers. She has been active nationally on issues of hunger and poverty, human trafficking, immigration reform and the environment.In 2013, the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty honored Paynter with the J.M. Dawson Religious Liberty Award. Paynter’s work has also been highlighted on television programs such as Moyers in America, and in print publications such as the Wall Street Journal and The New Yorker.

     A nationally recognized faith leader and ordained deacon and Sunday school teacher of more than 40 years, Paynter is a graduate of Baylor University, Stephen F Austin University and has held positions of leadership in Baptist churches in Texas, Kentucky, and Mississippi.
